MEANWHILE IN THE STUDIO

IT'S ALL HAPPENING AT THE SAME TIME

I can’t believe I’m sending you my first newsletter!

I have to cherish this moment because it will happen only one time, only today, and only with you.

If someone had told me a year ago that I was going to have a newsletter, I would probably have laughed. And when the time came to get started, I thought I was facing a mountain. But today, I feel like I've finally taken the first step 🏆.

After nine months of working without a break, I finally had a free August and really enjoyed it. First, I needed to reclaim my studio space to fully embrace the upcoming season. I had to do a lot of cleaning and tidying, and I even built a file cabinet, and the studio is all set for a fantastic semester of painting.

I then flew to the South-West France, to enjoy a week with my family, the lake, the ocean, the pine forest... and the heatwave 🥵. I did a lot of sketching, swimming, indulged in aperitifs, and explored local French bakeries!

When I came back to Prague, I was filled with energy and ready to get back into the flow.

Early August, I was contacted by Cinefleur, a Dutch magazine about flowers, offering me to come and film me while I would paint chrysanthemums for their autumn issue. At first I thought it might be a scam but it turned out to be real and the team was in my studio this Tuesday!

I was quite stressed, I've never been featured in a magazine before, and I’ve never been painting in front of a group of complete strangers! I’m more used to work behind the camera, and I didn't want to let anyone down. But I also knew that this was a great opportunity, and I couldn't pass it up.

It was a very interesting afternoon. They surprised me by bringing a bouquet of chrysanthemums for inspiration, which wasn’t what was previously discussed: my painting was supposed to be the source of inspiration for a florist the next day.

A little upset about this change of program, I painted two pieces, plus one while waiting for them.They chose the one which was my least favorite, but also the biggest, and they were satisfied.

I’ll be able to show you more when the magazine is released. Untill then, I should have finished and framed the three pieces I made that day and you will have the privilege of discovering them first 🌼

As you might be aware, I now have a brand new beautiful website. I had to finish it and publish it in the space of a few days to provide a link for the Cinefleur magazine article.

At this point, it had been under construction since February, and to be honest, without this push, it would still be sitting in my drawer. People have commented that it looks joyful, bright, happy and natural - all good to me 🎉.

The shop section will have to wait a bit longer due to some unexpected challenges and the complexity of certain parameters. However, rest assured that you will be the first to know when it launches.

I received a call, and I have to go back to work, much earlier than expected, for three months. Actually, I had even forgotten that I would have to return at some point.

I was working on the sets of the second season of “Interview with the Vampire” when our show had to pause, due to the actor’s strike last month 🎥. It’s a very demanding and exhausting job but it’s also inspiring and I get to collect lots of materials to paint and tinker with at the end of filming. I should be happy I have a creative job where I’m surrounded by other creatives, but I had other plans and I was ready for them!!

I know I can’t skip it, I have to do my part to complete the last two episodes. Which also means back to my at-home studio for a little while.

But the good news are: I won’t have to handle the cold in the studio untill Christmas and the shooting will take me to Paris in november, so maybe we could meet there? And go to visit the Nicolas de Staël exhibition together!
